The Downs

These awards recognise and honour exceptional women from The Downs region.

The Downs Awards includes the areas of Toowoomba, Dalby,Warwick, Stanthorpe, Wallangarra, Goondiwindi, Oakey, Miles, Pittsworth, Allora, Clifton, Cecil Plains, Drayton, Millmerran, Nobby, Chinchilla and Kingaroy and will honour outstanding and successful businesswomen and industry achievers.

The awards have been created to encourage ambition, entrepreneurialism and inspire new female leaders now and into the future.

The annual awards have been created to honour women who possess vision, innovation, entrepreneurial drive, leadership, individuality and tenacity with the ultimate goal being to present role models for other women to aspire to.

There are so many exceptional women across the Downs region and the DWIBA Awards provides a platform that seeks out successful, talented, visionaries making a difference across the greater Downs area.

2017 Award Categories

1: The Downs Woman in Business of the Year Award

This category will honor the region’s inspiring innovators and visionaries. This category is open to entrepreneurs who have achieved accomplishments of significance over their career. Nominees will possess qualities of vision, innovation, entrepreneurial drive, leadership, individuality, tenacity and demonstrate their commitment to gender diversity.


2: Community Dedication Award

Presented by St Vincent’s Hospital

This category will recognise the candidate’s contribution to the community, civic or sporting cause. The entrant will demonstrate dedication to either the Downs region or global initiatives through her current & past charity and voluntary work, community and or social justice endeavours.


3: Aspiring Young Business Women’s Award (open to 18-28 year olds)

Presented by  Toowoomba Regional Council

Entrants will demonstrate significant achievements to date and be making a distinctive contribution in their field or career or educational pursuit. Open to nominees between the age of 18-28 as at 30 September 2017 who possess significant leadership potential and outstanding qualities or performance.  Entrants will demonstrate their capacity to shape the future of the city with their immense energy, dedication and flair.


4: Empowering Young Women’s Award (open to high school students)

Presented by University of Southern Queensland

Open to outstanding young women who demonstrate significant leadership potential and outstanding qualities or performance. To be eligible for this Award the nominee must be in full time OR part time education in the Downs in 2017. Entrants will demonstrate high potential and a commitment to the community by contributing to charity or voluntary and/or achieving success by overcoming the odds.


5: Agribusiness Award

Presented by UKOO

This category is open to candidates who demonstrate a high level of passion and accomplishment in the agribusiness and agriculture sector. Candidates will have a solid depth of knowledge of the industry and have a strong desire to be part of its future growth in the region.

6: Mary Wagner Honour

Presented by Bond University

As a tribute to Mary Wagner’s commitment and legacy to the region, this prestigious Honour celebrates a visionary and dedicated woman who is doing extraordinary work and addressing critical issues in the Downs.Recognising an individual who has demonstrated excellence in leadership through deep local understanding and outstanding initiative. This inaugural Honour has been designed to advance community-driven, innovative and sustainable solutions to critical issues facing The Downs region.
