Why Nominate

What some past winners have to say about the value of nominating

2014 Gold Coast Woman in Business of the Year Award Winner

Michelle Doherty
Director, Alpha-H

The experience is a great way of reflecting on all of the hard work you have put into your business, all the challenges you have overcome and all that you have achieved. It ensures and acknowledges that you have learned the hard lessons and used them to improve the business.  The experience is a great way of meeting other women who are on similar journeys. It often feels like you walking the path alone, but now I realise that there are others out there like me.

The ability to overcome challenges that have arisen in the last few years particularly with the global financial crisis has resulted in a more sustainable and cost effective business, and that’s a win/win for our consumers and us. Quality and price have always been paramount at Alpha-H and not to be compromised by tough economic times. We have not ‘taxed’ our consumers or the quality of our products.

I feel very honoured and humbled to have won such a prestigious award. I couldn’t have done it without the support of our loyal customers, dedicated team, loving family and everyone that is the Alpha-H community.

2014 Business Achiever Award Winner

Tanya Curtis
Founder and Managing Director of Fabic Behaviour Specialist Centre
This award is a celebration of so many people that have supported Fabic & Sunlight Ink Publishing to become where we are today. I have learnt so much along the way and I have an amazing support team that has offered so much as we have grown and learnt together. Developing Fabic has included making some tough decisions and learning about true decisions and we now have a team that embraces that business is always about people first. When business is about ‘people first’ it is an absolute joy to wake and go to work each day. So thank you to Fabics entire support team past and present that has us offering the quality business that today we are able to offer.
My favourite part of the award journey has been having the opportunity to connect with many people from fellow nominees, judges, the organizing committee and other people along the way. Meeting people and having the chance to share stories has been invaluable and enjoyable.

2014 Innovation Award Winner

Professor Sonya Marshall-Gradisnik
Co-Director of National Centre for Neuroimmunology and Emerging Diseases, Griffith Health Institute

I have already told many of my colleagues about this organization.  I am already encouraging a large number of them to nominate for next year.  I am extremely honoured to be the recipient of this award.  Initially, I was very nervous as I thought “will I fit in?”  I should not have even concerned myself with such a thought.  The women who are part of this organization are exactly like me:  inclusive, trying to make a difference in their chosen area, juggling family commitments, seeking feedback on ideas as well as trying to help their colleagues with their careers.  I am thrilled this organization is located right on our door step.

The Awards has confirmed you do something you are passionate about, believe in yourself and that you can and will achieve it. Everyone’s path is different although never as easy as it seems, when times are tough believe in your passion and let it shine through your work! Inspire others with your journey. Creating general awareness to the public and patting each other on the back is a wonderful feeling for all involved. Creating a legacy of influential women who young girls can look up to is vitally important. Nominate each other and nominate someone you aspire to be! Being nominated was enough for me it gave me great satisfaction, winning was just the icing on the cake!

2014 Empowering Young Women’s Award Winner

Tani Stubbs

I have enjoyed the awards journey as it has opened up so many doors for me and helped me to just keep giving. As I am only 18 years old people see me as to young to change the world but this award has helped me to prove to them that age does not matter as long as you have the determination and passion.  I believe I was chosen because I found out people needed help and got out there and helped them without even hesitating. I empower to make the world a better place every day and hope that everyone can do the same.  Keep on dreaming because once you stop dreaming you stop living.
